Collation: [1-2 6 3 8 4 6 5-7 4 8-11 6 12 2 13 4 14-16 6 17 2 18-19 6 20-25 4 26-29 6 30 2 31 6 32 4 33-35 6 36 2 37 4 38-61 6]. 322 leaves (of 328, without xylographic title 1/1, first leaf of text 1/2, fol. 298 [all supplied in manuscript facsimile] and 3 blank leaves at end). 2- and 3-line pearled Lombard initials, 645 woodcuts repeated to a total of 1809 illustrations (Sydney Cockerell's count), including double-page maps of the world (Shirley 19) and Euorpe, 29 town views extending across two pages, and 8 full-page cuts, by Michael Wohlgemut, Wilhelm Pleydenwurff Albrecht Drer and their workshops, spaces for larger initials. (Lacks first two leaves, fol. 298 [all supplied in manuscript facsimile], and 3 blank leaves at end, approx. 6 leaves supplied from other copy, approx. 8 leaves repaired, some text affected [including map of Europe, with tiny portion supplied in manuscript facsimile], a few woodcut illustrations colored, some early marginalia). Modern calf, tooled in gilt, g.e. FIRST EDITION, of the Nuremberg Chronicle, the most extensively illustrated book of the 15th century and a masterpiece of complex design.
