O'FAOLAIN, Sean (1900-1991). Typescript of Vive Moi! , an autobiography, Killiney, Dublin, 1964, containing approximately 350 autograph revisions in blue and red ink on approximately 90 pages, annotated also in another hand with German translations of words and phrases, 384 leaves (numbered 1-377), 253 x 201mm, stapled in 15 gatherings, with a number of loose leaves (some wear to corners and margins). O'Faolain's autobiography, perhaps his finest work, recounts his progress from the backstreets of provincial Cork via service in the Irish Republican Army to status as the doyen of Irish letters, a tale told with his characteristic muscular lyricism. Vive Moi was first published in 1963; a revised and continued version was published posthumously in 1993. The present typescript is contemporaneous with the revised American edition of 1964, and was used by O'Faolain's German translator Elisabeth Schnack. The typescript differs, however, in a number of places from the published versions, and the autograph revisions, which range from emendations of punctuation and chapter numbering to the addition of phrases and redrafting of paragraphs, appear to be unknown in any English edition. [ Together with: ] Sean O'Faolain, Vive Moi! , Boston, 1964.
