Letter reads: "Mr. Hamilton presents his Compliments to Mr. Gibson... on the Claims of himself and other British Subjects on the French Government for subsistence money during their detention in France, is directed by Viscount Castlereagh... that these Claims have been already Subjects of discussion between the Two Governments, but that... France has entered into no obligation to make them good in any of the late Treaties, it is not competent for His Majesty's Minister to press them to any further consideration of the Subject.- Foreign Office, March 8th 1817."
