Bohn, 1841. 3 volumes, 8 o (238 x 144 mm). 152 hand-colored engraved plates printed on J. Whatman paper, 4 printed on a lighter stock, by W. Clark and S. Watts after Augusta Innes Withers and C. M. Curtis, 5 double-page, no plate numbered 135, but 2 plates numbered 136. (Very light marginal dampstain on extreme edge of leaf, lacking one preliminary blank and final and blanks, a few light stains, inner gutter of a few leaves in volume one reinforced.) Modern quarter leather, edges gilt. FIRST EDITION. The work is a re-issue of Lindley's The Pomological Magazine , published by James Ridgeway between 1828 and 1830. All except five of the plates are from originals by Mrs.Withers, who at the time of the present publication was "Flower and Fruit Painter in Ordinary to Queen Victoria." Dunthorne 184; Nissen BBI 1203; Oak Spring Pomona 44.
