Illustrated from photographs, portraits, and views plus 6 maps. 22.2x15.7 cm (8¾x6¼"), bound by MacDonald in half morocco over marbled boards ruled in gilt, raised bands, spines tooled in gilt; top edges gilt. No. 553 of 950 copies. First Edition. Larpenteur joined William Sublette and Robert Campbell on an expedition from St. Louis to the Rockies in 1833, then joined the rival American Fur Company the following winter. His journals and memoirs give great insight into the fur trading of those heady years. Graff 2404; Howes C806.
