.38 Colt caliber, 5.5" barrel, S/N 43335 (mfg. ca 1870s). Nickel finish, silver-plated triggerguard and backstrap, fire-blued small parts, two-piece mother-of-pearl grips. Five-shot cartridge altered, partially rebated cylinder with roll engraved Stagecoach Hold Up scene. One-line Colt barrel address reads: ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S.AMERICA. Two-line COLT'S / PATENT mark on lower left of frame and 36 CAL on left web of triggerguard. Matching serial numbers throughout with the exception of the loading gate (#3346), wedge, which has had all of the serial number except for a "3" removed prior to finishing, and the grips which are not numbered. All major serial numbers over the letter "E" for "engraved." Revolver engraved in the late Colt factory style with classic "wolf's head" hammer, flowing foliate patterns on the frame and barrel surrounding the barrel address, geometric borders on the backstrap and butt and Cuno Helfricht's traditional geometric fan motif at the top of the grip frame, below the hammer. A lovely factory engraved Colt conversion revolver in pristine untouched condition. Condition: Fine. Retains most of the Colt factory nickel finish. Retains most of silver plating. All markings clear and sharp, as is the engraving. Most of the blued small parts retain some of vibrant color, while others retain most of their brightly niter blue finish. Good action compliments good bore. Grips rate very good with the expected minor chips and losses at the sharp leading and trailing edges. Altogether a rare and beautiful factory engraved Western expansion period Colt.
