Erasmus, Desiderius. Adagia quaecumque ad hanc diem exierunt, Paulli Mannuccii studio … ab omnibus mendisvindicata quae pium, & veritatis catholicae studiosum lectorem poterant offendere. Venice: Unitorum Societas (Compagnia degli Uniti), 1585 Renouard considered this edition of Erasmus's Adages—the third of the text edited by Paolo Manuzio at the behest of the Council of Trent—to have been published by the Aldine Press. 4to (218 x 156 mm). Roman types, with some Greek and italic, 54 lines plus headline. collation: †4 A-O4 P2 A-Z8 Aa-Zz8 Aaa- Sss8: 574 leaves (Sss8 blank). Woodcut Unitorum Societas device on title-page, woodcut headpiece and a few woodcut initials, text in two columns. (Repaired wormtrail at upper inner margins of D7-H1 not affecting text, a few other leaves with small, marginal wormholes, a very few quires lightly browned, some scattered marginal foxing.) binding: Contemporary limp vellum (226 x 175 mm), slightly overlapping edges, traces of two pairs of green fabric ties, spine ink-lettered with title, plain endpapers and edges. (Spine dampstained with restoration to head, slightly soiled). provenance: Unidentified owner, shelfmark "Cl.5.C1.
