Milan: Stampa Moscheniana, [1557]. 4° (211 x 146mm). Woodcuts arms of Savoy on title-page, partly hand-coloured red, fine double-page woodcut view of the siege of Cuneo, with the final blank. (A few minor spots and stains.) 19th-century limp vellum. An eye-witness account of the siege of Cuneo in Piemonte by the French in 1557 at a time when, after the death of the unfortunate Charles III of Savoy, the whole country was overrun by the hostile armies of François I and Charles V. In the same year, however, his son and successor, Emmanuel Philibert, won a great victory over the French at St Quentin in the Low Countries, and by the terms of the subsequent treaty of Cateau Cambrésis in 1559 he was reinstated in most of his hereditary possessions. RARE.
