BONET, Paul (1889-1971) -- Renée MOUTARD-ULDRY. Paul Bonet 1889. Documentation . Geneva: Imprimerie de la Plaine du Rhône for Editions Pierre Cailler, 1960. 4 o (243 x 168 mm). 8 leaves and printed wrappers. Portrait and illustrations. MOSAIC BINDING DESIGNED BY PAUL BONET FOR JACQUES MILLOT, signed as such on turn-ins and dated 1967, forwarded by René Desmules, finished by Guy Raphaël: claret boxcalf decorated to an abstract design with irregularly shaped calf inlays of eight different colors (scarlet, ochre, orange, cream, turquoise, and three shades of grey), the same pattern on both covers but with opposite orientation, spine gilt-lettered, grey suede doublures and endleaves bordered with calf, gilt edges. Chemise and slipcase. Provenance : Jacques Millot, PRESENTATION COPY inscribed and signed by Bonet, dated 20 May 1961: "au Professeur Jacques Millot... l'expérience d'une vie et de ses combats, en témoignage de gratitude et d'amitié." Number 143 of Les cahiers d'art-documents . Six years after receiving this presentation copy from the subject of this study, Professor Millot asked him to bind it, which inspired another inscription from the artist, this time page-long and very introspective, ending: "... mais à quoi bon tout cela, il n'est qu'un fait: je suis relieur." Bonet EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED Millot's copy with 48 original photographs by Chevojon of bindings in the various styles described by Mme Moutard-Uldry, as well as some later ones; also with business cards from his early period as a lady's hat designer and invitations to openings of bookbinding exhibtions. A.L.s. by the artist, informing his patron that the binding is finished, loosely inserted. Bonet, Carnets no 1579: J'en ai fait un véritable "document" resumant ma carrière."
