WORLD WAR I PHOTOGRAPHY] Group of approximately eighty photographs . Mostly France: circa August to October 1917. A large group of vintage photographs, most affiixed to boards with manuscript descriptions to the verso or recto, several not mounted and stamped on the verso "Section Photography De L'Armee" and stamped again "Obtained abroad by Major F.R. Stoddard, apt. R.H. Wilder ... C.A.C., N.Y.G. August to October, 1917. Photographs mostly 4 3/4 x 5 3/4 (12.5 x 14.5 cm). A few soiled but overall very good, the unmounted ones curled, most loose but two groups in frames with letter, contains duplicates; Together with JUSSERAND, JEAN JULES. Typed letter signed. Washington: 20 August 1917. Letter in French on his Ambassador stationery. Framed. Letter introducing the mission of Stoddard and Wilder, mentioned above. Unexamined out of frame. An intriguing large lot of contemporary images from the French front, including numerous views of field artillery, destruction of cities, men in gas masks entering the trenches, etc. C
