The woodcuts are the same blocks used in Jacques Sacon's 1517 Lyon edition and are designed for Johann Grüninger's 1502 Strassburg edition. "Grüninger's artist applied to the work a skilled hand and a lively imagination... the Virgil ... is crowded with wonderful pictures, in which on the eve of the Renaissance Virgil is thoroughly medievalized."
