VEEN, Otto van. Emblemata Aliquot Selectiora Amatoria. Amsterdam: Willem Janson, 1618. Oblong 8° (78 x 95mm.). Collation: A 8 -N 8 . In Latin, Dutch and French. Engraved allegorical title, engraved allegorical illustration of the power of Venus, 70 engraved emblems. (Clean tear just above plate mark on L2.) Contemporary red silk on wooden boards, with arms of Heinrich Surbrick worked in silver and gold thread over raised backgrounds, shaded with blue thread, surrounded by the embroidered motto "Hinrich Surbick me fit faire", dated Paris, January 1626, in silver and gold thread, the back cover with similar raised work, embroidered in metal thread in a stylised foliate cruciform design, spine in three compartments with scroll designs in gold thread, the whole semé with sequins.
