Title: US. Dept of Commerce. Economic Aspects of Comprehensive Survey of San Francisco Bay and Tributaries. Future Development of the San Francisco Bay Area 1960-2020 Author: Place: Washington DC. Publisher: GPO Date: 1959 Description: xxi, 94 [37] pp. Report in pictorial wrappers. Also included in 20 large folding maps, many in color, printed in 22 parts. All housed in original slipcase. The now-famous report prepared by the US Army Corps of Engineers in which this far-sighted group proposed the "reclamation" of virtually all of the tidal and marsh land in the entire SF Bay, effectively turning the Bay into a sluggish river. This report was instrumental in inspiring the creation of the "Save the Bay" organization which, with the active involvement of other groups, has managed to get most of the suggestions abandoned, while creating a better understanding of tidal hydrology and our regional resources. Lot Amendments Condition: Slipcase a bit worn and scuffed, tape reinforcement; some wear and scattered stains, spines of maps a bit sunned; very good or better. Item number: 261166
