.45-70 GOVT. 32.625" barrel length. SN: 500848. Single-shot trapdoor rifle with fully adjustable Buffington rear and pinned front blade sight. Blued metal finish with walnut musket-pattern stock. Item features include low-arch breechblock, two-piece triggerguard with sling swivel, serrated trigger, and three click hammer. Proof markings to metal components are as follows: "U" proof marks to both barrel bands, "I" mark to top of barrel at breech, "V/P/{Eagle's head}/P" to left side of barrel, "{US Army Eagle} U.S./SPRINGFIELD" to lock plate, "U.S." to top of buttplate. Front sight is not original nor is it in the standard pattern for the 1884. Stock has been sanded, obliterating any previous markings to it. Markings to metal components are weak. Condition: Good as refinished. Bore is dark with patina throughout and some oxidation to grooves. Blued finish has been polished, leaving few patches of original finish to lockplate, triggerguard, and hammer. Barrel bands slightly loose. Fastener missing from lockplate. Action is functional. White paint applied to metal markings as accent.
