Lot consist of: (A) Springfield Model 1873 single shot rile. Made 1882. This rifle was cut down into a short rifle at some point. "U.S./MODEL/1873" marked breech block. "V/P/(Eagles Head)" proofs on the chamber. Standard markings on the right side of the lock plate. Boxed "SWP/1880" cartouche on the left side of the stock. Circled "P" proof on the wrist of the stock. "US" marked butt plate. Barrel was cut down to 24" and the front band moved back. Standard blade front sight with a Krag 1896 pattern rear sight (installed incorrectly). Metal finish looks to be original forming a brown patina in some areas. Stock has a light oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate. Ramrod is absent. CONDITION: Metal retains 70% of its original finish with most areas forming a gray/brown patina. Stock has handling marks, dents and scratches. Very clean bore with strong rifling. Hammer spring appears to be weak, but hammer is still functional. Mechanically fine. (B) Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor single shot rifle. Made 1889. "U.S./MODEL/1884" marked breech block. "V/P/(Eagles Head)" proofs on the chamber. Standard markings on the right side of the lock plate. Illegible boxed "1889" cartouche on the left side of the stock. Circled "P" proof on the wrist of the stock. "US" marked butt plate, in addition to a "33" rack number. "F/33/3" marked on the wrist. Standard blade front sight with "R" marked Buffington rear sight. Metal finish looks to be original forming a brown patina in most areas. Stock has a light oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its finish with most areas forming a solid brown patina. Stock has dings, scratches, dents and scratches. Bore is lightly frosted with very good overall rifling. Hammer is tight. Mechanically fine.
