Illustré de huit eaux-fortes originales d' Edouard Chimot , Paris: Le Livre d' Art, Editions Léo Delteil, 1922, limited to 393 copies, this one of 18 examples on 4° raisin, and number 6 of 8 copies numbered in Roman numerals, signed by the artist, with the 8 etched plates in four states, one coloured, and containing an original illustration, a pencil drawing for the first plate of the heroine seated in a large hat (325 x 245mm.), unbound as issued in original green wrappers. Maurice Rat cites the seven plates of La Petite Jeanne pâle and the frontispiece to La Sirenè du Pont des Arts as particularly fine examples of Chimot's power of fidelity to his author ( Chimot pp. 24-25). The original pencil sketch in the above copy, which is illustrated on page ... of this catalogue, is a study for the first plate of the principal work where the heroine is seated at a table under a large hat and in evening gloves, with "un regard frais et bleu dans ses yeux trop cernés." Two of the four states of the frontispiece to La Sirenè du Pont des Arts are illustrated above.
