Originally part of Morris's and Burne-Jones's plan for The Earthly Paradise, the wood blocks, 38 of which were personally carved by Morris, were abandoned, eventually ending up with the Society of Antiquaries of London. The society gave Will Carter and Douglas Cleverdon from Clover Hill Editions permission to use the blocks, resulting in this portfolio.
