Sleeper regarding the availability of this volume from Susan B. Anthony for the cost of $5, the suspension of publication of her 'National Citizen and Ballot Box' monthly, and her desire to receive a contribution by Mrs. Sleeper. Volume 2 is inscribed on the front flyleaf to Miss Maria G. Porter by Susan B. Anthony; diagonally across the inscription and in another hand is written "By Mistake" possibly implying that the intended recipient of this volume was mis-stated. Maria Porter (mentioned Vol. 4, p.275) was a friend of Anthony's, her home in Rochester, NY has been described as Anthony's 'other Mecca' and was used as a literary center by her. Volume 1 and 2 published by Fowler and Wells, Volumes 3 & 4 by Susan B. Anthony, Volumes 5 & 6 by the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Lot Amendments Condition: An ex-library set with spine labels (blacked out on Vols. 5 & 6), rubberstamp markings, card pockets and date slips, etc. Spines unevenly faded, spine ends frayed, horizontal split to spine cloth on Vol. 1, front free endpaper (with letter attached) detached in Volume 1; overall fair to good only.
