King George V was distressed to hear that Beatty had been wounded and wrote to General Alderson expressing his sympathy and requesting further information. In England his wounds were further aggravated by a fall from his horse and on 18th April, 1917, he failed to recover from an operation and died on the operating table. The Q.S.A. awarded to Major Beatty was sold at Christie's on 21st October, 1991.
