In Cleveland and later New York City, he continued to contribute to books, magazines and newspapers and worked for the game manufacturer Milton Bradley before Walt Disney Corp. brought him to Hollywood as chief designer of the first feature-length cartoon, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). He also worked on Pinocchio (1940) and Bambi (1942) as well as the Silly Symphonies, The Old Mill(1937) and The Ugly Duckling (1939). Fed up with Disney, he left Hollywood in 1940 and devoted the rest of his life primarily to Golden Books. He illustrated the most successful of all the Little Golden Books, The Poky Little Puppy (1942).
