SUETONIUS TRANQUILLUS, Caius (75-160). Commentationes conditae a Philippo Beroaldo in Suetonium Tranquillum . Venice: Philippo Pincio, 18 February 1510. 2° (315 x 212 mm). Collation: AA 10 BB 4 a-z 8 & \\j \\g 8 A-Q 8 R 6 . 356 leaves, R6 blank. Roman and Greek type, text with commentary surround. Title woodcut depicting the birth of Caesar, repeated on a1r, and 72 smaller woodcuts (including a few repeats), white-on-black woodcut ornamental initials, a few initial spaces with guide letters. (Two small wormholes through first 20 leaves, several wormholes affecting last 35 leaves, occasional light dampstain to extreme outer margins.) Contemporary German quarter blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, with floral stamps and lozenge and floral roll-tools, two brass catches (lacking clasps, minor worming, small stain to upper cover). Provenance : shelfmarks 30 and 547 inked on fore-edge; F. Z. M. Fr. Ritt(er) v. Hauslar, 19th-century armorial library stamp in lower corner of title; 19th-century bibliographical notes in German pencilled on front pastedown. Adams S-2028; Essling 209; Sander 7144.
