Publisher's brown paper wrappers printed in black (covers a little faded and with one or two light and unobtrusive stains, spines of the two volumes of the Cabin repaired with gauze, spine of the Key a little rubbed and with a small chip at foot, one or two light creases), slipcases. Holograph quotation: one page, quarto, folded in the center and with 11 lines of text in brown ink in Beecher Stowe's hand on one side, signed 'Harriet Beecher Stowe' and dated below. (Very small chip at head of fold, and one other very minor chip at fold). Provenance : Walter Chrysler -- Mary Pinkerton Carlisle -- Paul Hyde Bonner (20th-century labels). FIRST EDITION, IN THE ORIGINAL WRAPPERS: BAL BINDING A, later printings, with errors corrected, of Stowe's passionate anti-slavery novel. All printings are EXTREMELY RARE IN THE WRAPPERS. 'The social impact of Uncle Tom's Cabin on the United States was greater than that of any book before or since' (PMM). Together with an autograph quotation by the author, from chapter 12 of the book.
