Nikolai Sedelnikov studied at the School of technical drawing and lithography in Moscow as well as at the WChUTEMAS, the soviet equivalent to the Bauhaus school, under El Lissitzky Tatlin and Rodchenko from 1924-25. He was one of the pioneers of the new typography of the 1920s-30s in the Soviet Union and a founding member of the constructivist artists' association "October" Moscow, 1928. In 1928 he won the Gold Medal at the international fair "Pressa" in Cologne, in 1937 the Grand Prix at the World Exhibition, Paris and in 1939 the Gold Medal at the World's Fair, New York. His work has been shown in various international exhibitions such as "Die grosse Utopie. Die Russische Avantgarde 1915-1932", Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt a. M. 1992, "Mit voller Kraft. Russische Avantgarde 1910-1934", Hamburg 2001, "The Merrill C. Berman Collection" at the Fudacion Juan March, Madrid 2012 and a retrospective at the W. I. Lenin State Library, Moscow 1982. Collages by Sedelnikov are rare .
