Approximately 1800 woodcuts, two hand-coloured, by Michael Wolgemut Wilhelm Pleydenwurff and their workshop, including Albrecht Dürer lombards, spaces left blank for larger initials. (Xylographic title and final verso mounted, some staining, soiling, remargining and paper repairs, 4 leaves torn with loss, headlines and foliation occasionally slightly shaved, text on Pope Joan censored.) 18th-century mottled calf (scuffed). Provenance : some landmarks in the woodcuts identified in a 16/17th-century hand. FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN of the most extensively illustrated book of the 15th century.
