Model 1877 mitre helmet to the Guard Infantry Pavlovski Grenadier regiment with gilded brass plate with crowned, double-headed eagle with Saint George on breast shield, banner with “God is with us” motto. A large star to the Order of Saint Andrew enameled with black, red, white and blue components to the crucified saint and eagle center. The inscription translates “For Faith and Fidelity”. Mounted above the star is a silver banner commemorating a battle at Gornyi-Dubnyak, 12 October 1877 (Turkish campaign). Red wool cloth “bag” seamed with silver officer’s braiding above a white wool headband. Rosettes of grenade design fasten the leather lined convex brass chinscales. The large national cockade of gold, black and orange is affixed behind the chinscales on the right side. The officer’s pattern, pear shaped, pompom is of silver bullion and has, since 1884, the monogram of the emperor, Nicholas II, on a black velvet center. Officer quality leather sweatband and red twill lining stamped with maker’s marks. Condition: Expected wear, age patina and toning. Extremely rare to find helmet in excellent condition. Incomparable addition to any advanced collection and certain to be a focus piece.
