Sadok sudei II [A Trap for Judges II], first edition, one of 800 copies, on green paper, 15 letterpress illustrations (6 by Elena Guro; 3 by David Burliuk; 2 by Natalia Goncharova; 2 by Mikhail Larionov; 2 by Vladimir Burliuk), wallpaper wrappers with mounted printed title, rebacked in plain paper, preserved in later patterned drop-back box, [MoMA 53], small 4to, St Petersburg, Zhuravl, 1913. ⁂ An important example of early Russian avant-garde collaborative effort. The work includes a Futurist manifesto, New Principles of Creation , demanding a new language called zaum (see lot 319) that adopts a typically Futurist take on the usage of grammar, syntax, punctuation & rhythm, and is accompanied by similarly wilful, unconventional illustrations by several of the preeminent Russian Futurist artists.
