ROBERTS, David. The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea... With historical descriptions, by... George Croly. London: F.G. Moon, 1842-1849. 20 original parts in 10, 2° (624 x 448mm). Lithographic portrait of Roberts by C. Baugnier on india paper mounted, one lithographic map, three tinted lithographic titles and 120 plates by Louis Haghe after David Roberts (60 full-page, 60 half-page). (Some spotting, marginal in the main, but obtrusive to about ten leaves, margins of about six leaves torn, a few others a trifle tattered.) Original cloth-backed wrappers (disbound, most backstrips defective, some covers torn). A good set in its original state. This copy is without the two leaves of subscribers, but these are clearly not required in this issue. The title to vol.III is here numbered "3", and not scratched out, as is more usually the case. Cf. Abbey Travel 385 (hand-coloured issue); Tooley 401. (10)
