ART - ALADJALOV - DREIER, Katherine S. & Constantin ALADJALOV. International exhibition of modern art arranged by the Société Anonyme for the Brooklyn Museum, November, December 1926. New York, Société Anonyme, Museum of Modern Art, [1926]. 4to. Original illustrated boards (sl. stained and rubbed with small loss of paper) with red cloth spine as issued. With a dedication page 'To Wassili Kandinsky, this book is dedicated as my gift to his 60th birthday...' and publisher's advertisements. Exhibition catalogue printed in red and black and profusely illustrated with works by such modern artists as Man Ray, Kurt Schwitters Moholy-Nagy, Alfred Stieglitz Georgia O'Keeffe Pablo Picasso Georges Braque Fernand Léger Miro, Marcel Duchamp Hans Arp Francis Picabia Franz Marc Lissitzky, Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian Vilmos Huszar, Giorgio De Chirico Brancusi, and many others, arranged alphabetically by country. One leaf with a marginal tear (sm. peice of paper missing, text and image not affected), else in good condition. Very rare. (12), 117, (7) pp. Provenance: A gift from Ilonka Karasz to Piet Elling Notes: Copy from the estate of Piet Elling who received it as a gift from the artist Ilonka Karasz aunt of his wife. Duchamp's collaboration was of great importance for the exhibition as "his indefatigable energy in gathering the works together in Paris" (foreword). One of the best designed modernist book productions we came accross. Put on the way by Marcel Duchamp's Some French Moderns Says McBride and Lissitzky's Dlia Golosa, especially by their revolutionary use of thumb indexes, but with an undeniable class of its own. Hardly ever offered.
