PLATE OF OSAGE INDIANS. DELPECH, F. S. - BOILLY, L. Osages Peuplade Sauvage de L'Amerique septentrionale, dans l'etat de Missouri. Arrives a Paria le 13 Aout 1827. No. 89. (Paris) Lith. de Delpech, 1827. Hand-coloured lithograph, 360x275 mms. Lightly soiled, some slight wearing to right margin, minor tear to lower margin, some slight soiling to corners and minor spotting to left corner. Rare print depicting three of the six Osage Indians that visited France in 1827. The group of four American Indian men and two women arrived in Paris on August 13, 1827 (together with David DeLaunay and an interpreter Paul Loise), and Delpech made 3 prints based on Boilly's paintings. Each print depicts three individuals. This etching, number 89, for which there are two examples, depicts Kishagashugah (Little Chief), his female cousin of his wife Gre´tomih, and Minckchatahooh (Little Warrior). Etching Number 90 depicts Myhangah (Hawk Woman), the wife of Kishagashugah, Washingasbha (Black Spirit), and Marchanthitahtoongah (Big Warrior). Boilly also made another plate with the three other American Indians, which was numbered 90. Photo.
