Small 8:o. (2), (2), iiix, (12, (1)-223, (1 blank) pp. Contemporary brown half calf, somewhat worn, richly gilt spine in six compartments, marbled edges. Minor foxing. Charles-Joseph Panckoucke (1736-1798), French writer and publisher. He was responsible for numerous influential publications of the era, including the literary journal Mercure de France and the Encyclopédie Méthodique, a successor to the Encyclopédie of Denis Diderot, to which he published a Supplement i 5 volumes and an Index in 2 volumes.
