RACINE, Jean (1639-1699). Oeuvres . Paris: Claude Barbin, 1697. 2 volumes, 12° (160 x 91mm). Engraved frontispieces, that to vol. I after C. Le Brun, 12 engraved plates by and after F. Chauveau. (Vol. I with closed tear at bottom margin of a4, plate of Andromaque with minor tear, quire Aa and two final quires short at bottom margin, verso of final leaf lightly soiled, vol. II title creased.) Red morocco gilt by A. Motte, sides with crowned cypher at corners repeated on spine, gilt turn-ins, gilt and marbled edges, silk markers, later gilt supralibros. Provenance : Baron de Ruble (ex libris and cypher on binding) -- Hector de Backer (lot 945 in his 1926 sale by L. Giraud-Badin, where purchased).
