R.E. Lee, Genl Commg, (Robert E. Lee, CSA General and later Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia), one page ALS, Aug. 3, 1861 war-date military field letter to 'Gen. S. Cooper, Adjt & Insp Genl C.S.A., Richmond, Va.', letter headed 'Hd. Qrs. Huntersville (Va. now W. Va.), 'Genl. Loring has rec'd a letter from Genl. Floyd of the 1st and Genl. Wise of the 3rd...they do not seem near a junction & I fear from their report, their commands will not prove effective after a junction is made. I will write to Genl. Floyd to move from the Sweet Springs to the White Sulphur (both Va. now W. Va.), where it appears Genl. Wise will rendezvous, & should the force of the enemy not prevent to occupy Lewisburg , 7¾ x 10" on blue-lined stationery, soiling on reverse along couple horizontal file folds (one of which also shows lightly on the face), but which does not affect signature, otherwise very fine, a rare R.E.
