PTOLEMAEUS (Claudius): GEOGRAFIA cioè descrittione universale della terra, Venice, Giovanni Battista & Giorgio Galignani, 1597-1798 Two parts in one vol., folio (295 x 200 mm.), Italian text translated by Leonardo Cernoti, edited by Giovanni Antonio Magini printed titles with engraved devices and 64 maps engraved by Girolamo Porro all inset in the text except the folding twin-hemisphere world map, diagrams in the text (small wormholes in upper blank margins of first 7 leaves; occasional spotting), old vellum (upper joint split; head and foot of spine defective) Most of the 37 maps of the modern world in this edition are adapted from Mercator or Ortelius, including the finely engraved reduction of Rumold Mercator's twin-hemisphere world map of 1587.
