Lider un gedikhte fun A.N. Stencl [Poems by A.N. Stencl]. Leipzig: Menes, [1920s]. Yiddish (Colophon in German). Poems by the Yiddish author and poet Avraham Nahum Stencl (1897-1983). Copy no. 49 from an edition of 100 numbered copies, hand-signed by the author. Illustrated front cover (author's portrait). Stencl was born in Poland. His father, Rabbi Haim Dov Stencl, served as Dayan of the city of Czeladź, and his brother was head of a Yeshivah in Sosnowiec. Stencl left home at a young age and joined "HeChalutz" movement. In 1921, he immigrated to Germany and joined the local bohemian community. He published a number of poetry books and gained much success. In 1936, after being arrested and released by the Gestapo, he settled in London, where he published the Yiddish periodical "Lashon un Leben". [12] pp, 30X30 cm. Good condition. Minor stains and tears.
