One hundred and seven paintings in Gouash depicting the holocaust, the revival of the country and more, created by the artist Zanek Maor (1923-2009). Most paintings are signed and dated (2005-2009). Zanek Maor (Moshkovitz) was born in 1923 in Włocławek, Poland. When the war broke out he fled with his family to Warsaw and was imprisoned in the Ghetto. Maor was then sent to a forced labor camp in a town near Poznan, before being transferred to Auschwitz where he was sent to a coal mine. Marched in the Death March until the liberation by the Red Army. Immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1947 and settled in Kibbutz Yad Mordechai. Later he moved to Haifa where he lived until his death in 2009. The paintings presented in this lot were created during his last years (most of them painted in 2005). Maor's paintings, painted in a naïve and childish style, portray in detail his atrocious experiences during the war, and his life in Israel. Lot of 107 items. Average size 30X42 cm. Overall good condition. See enclosed book: "To Survive, Zanek Maor, Drawings to remember the Holocaust" (2006). Some of the paintings in this lot appear in the book.
