Collation: a 10 b-i 8 . 6 k-p 6 . 8 q-s 6 t 8 (a1r title, a1v table of problemata of Thomas Aquinas on book I, a3r prologue, a3v table of distinctions, a5v text (books I-II); A-Q 8 . 6 (A1r books III-IV, Q6v colophon and printer's device (Weil 40); Qr 6 (table of problemata of Thomas Aquinas on book 4); T 6 U 8 (tabula, U8 blank); R 6 S 10 (table of erroneous articles, S3 blank). 281 (of 282, with stub only of blank t6) leaves. 54-55 lines and headline, double column. Type: 1:180G (opening sections), 2:82 a G (text), 4:93G (headings), 5:280G (title), 6:64G (prolegomena). 3- to 9-line initial spaces with guide-letters. (Marginal tear in i3, small wormholes to quire l occasionally affecting a few letters, occasional light foxing.) Contemporary half pigskin over wooden boards, remains of clasps, paper title labels (spine worn). Provenance : Georg Holzmüller, with his contemporary purchase inscription; Johann Faberi(?) 1549; Windberg, inscription, De Monasterii Bibliotheca Windbergensis ; Munich, Royal Library, with "Duplum" on front pastedown. Peter Lombard's On the Sentences comprises the whole of Christian doctrine. It became the basis for theological study in virtually every centre of learning throughout Europe, extending well into the Renaissance. The Klotz copy is unusually complete, having a full stub of blank t6 and full-page blanks U8 and S3, the latter correcting BMC's collation of that quire to S 10 .
