Leigh (dedicatee, presentation by the author on front free endpaper); Herbert McLean Evans (bookplate). PRESENTATION COPY of the first trade edition, inscribed by Percival on front free endpaper. "First published for private circulation, 1794. The British and American medical professions have adopted much of 'Percival' in their ethical codes" (Garrison-Morton). "Even today, after undergoing several revisions, the American Medical Association guidelines of ethical conduct for the physician are still based on those formulated by Percival" ( Heirs of Hippocrates ).
