Beschreibung:

Paul Henry RHA RUA (1876-1958) Head of a Girl Wearing a Hat (1895-8) Pastel, 31 x 24.4cm, (12.25 x 9.7'') Signed Provenance: A gift from the artist to the original owner's sister in law when she was a fellow student at the Belfast College of Art; thence by descent. Paul Henry attended the Belfast College of Art from the autumn of 1895 until the summer of 1898, when he left home for Paris. This drawing, therefore, must date from those years. Judged stylistically, too, it is a youthful work, the use of the medium, pastel, being unique in the artist's work. Head of a Girl Wearing a Hat is numbered 114 in S. B. Kennedy's forthcoming catalogue of Paul Henry's oeuvre. The sitter is identified by the current owners as the daughter of the caretaker at the RUA.
