OLAUS MAGNUS Historia delle Genti et della Natura delle cose Settentrionali. Nuovamente tradotta in lingua Toscana. Venice (Nicolini for Giuntas heirs) 1565. Folio. (25), 286 ll. With over 450 woodengravings in the text, 1 engraved map of Scandinavia and two printer`s woodcut devices. Contemporary restored vellum, spine rebacked, corners professionally restored, flyleaves renewed, manuscript owner's note on lower edges. Title page partly stained, small repair of upper corner, and with old owner's inscription of an Italian capucin monastery (Libreria de cappuccini di Lugo), about 15 leaves at the end with repaired corners, partly soiled and dampstained, some leaves browned or with marginal foxing. Photo. BM, Italian books 404; Brunet III, 1302. Collijn II:330-332. Second, but first complete illustrated Italian edition. Including the famous map of Scandinavia, closely copied from the woodcut map used in the 1555 edition. It is based on the original map from 1537 in nine leaves.
