Photograph, on deck, of eleven men and one young boy holding a pet, life-preserver of the schooner Laura Madsen at center, large stacks of cut lumber visible in the background. The Laura Madsen, built for James Madsen of San Francisco in 1882, was crushed by ice at anchor off Point Barrow, Alaska in October of 1905, with a cargo of whalebone, ivory, and furs.
