Goodale, Nathan (1743-1793). Revolutionary War officer and first settler in Marietta, Ohio. ALS, 1 p., Marietta. January 10, 1793. Addressed to Dwight Foster. Goodale writes to Foster concerning some apparent issues in Massachusetts and asks him to petition on his behalf with another officer. A few months later, he would be captured and killed by American Indians. Goodale was a Massachusetts man and officer in the Revolutionary War. He moved his family to Ohio Territory in 1788 and was one of the first settlers in Marietta, Ohio. He served as captain of the militia in Washington County, which most likely made him and his family a target. After living in the area for some time, a group of American Indians captured him from his farm in the spring on 1793. He died while captured. Condition: Toning of the paper and a missing bottom corner
