Woodcut illustrations of coat-of-arms of the Bishop and Chapter of Würzburg, and large woodcut illustration of Crucifixion BOTH WOODCUTS FINELY COLORED BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND. (Some worming, mostly marginal.) Contemporary German blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, lower pastedown a leaf from Nicolas de Lyra Postilla super totam Bibliam printed in Strassburg by Mentelin, 1472, Goff N-133 (clasps missing, light worming and some rubbing to sides). Provenance : stamp erased from 1/2 -- Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from Maggs Bros., London, 23 August 1943) -- dontated to SMS 1943. The third Würzburg Missal, the first was printed by Reyser in 1491. This splendid production exhibits four of Reyser's fine founts. The two Missal types were not used in any other book.
