MATTIOLI, PIETRO ANDREA. Commentarii secundo aucti, in libros sex Pedacii Dioscoridis Anazarbei de Medica Materia. Venice: Vincenzo Valgrisi, 1560. Titles with woodcut printer's device, woodcut illustrations of plants, mammals, fish and shells throughout. 2 parts in one volume, folio, contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, lacking clasps, some wear to spine ends and corners; first few pages with marginal repair (affecting a few letters) and reinforced along gutter margins, d2-d5 and D6 (printer's device?) in second part lacking, a few pages torn, some browning and staining (heavier at end), other light wear. Adams D669; see STC/ Italian 294. An extensively illustrated edition of Mattioli's commentary on Dioscorides's De Materia Medica, first published by Valgrisi in 1554. As usual, this edition is bound with Mattioli's Apologia adversus Amathum Lusitanum, published by Valgrisi in 1559.
