MATTIOLI, Pietro Andrea (1500-1577). Opera quae extant omnia , Frankfurt: Nicolaus Bassaeus, 1598. 2° (369 x 219mm). Title within architectural woodcut border, numerous woodcut illustrations in text. (A few marginal repairs, browned and some staining.) 19th-century calf, spine gilt (rubbed). Provenance : early owner inscription on title erased -- Laugerius (18th-century owner's insciption on title pages) -- some marginal anotations -- shelfmark (A no.398, verso of front free end paper). FIRST EDITION of the Opera omnia edited by Caspar Bauhin, and containing the most complete edition of the Commentarii as Mattioli's medical tracts. The woodcuts are copies from the Camerarius translation, and over 300 new woodcuts which were commissioned by Bauhin. Adams M-906; Nissen BBI 1309.
