MARILYN MONROE RECEIVED LETTER 1952 A short note sent to Marilyn Monroe by producer Jerry Wald. Dated "May 1, 1952" and typed on his personalized letterhead, it reads in full "Dear Marilyn:/I know this is going to be the first/of a long shelf of hits!/It will always make me happy to know/that your first Star Billing role was/for me./Warmest personal regards,/Sincerely, Jerry" (his name being signed in blue ballpoint ink). Also noted on the lower margin is "Miss Marilyn Monroe/Beverly-Carlton/944 West Olympic/Beverly Hills, Calif." Wald was referrencing MM's 1952 film, "Clash by Night," their first collaboration; he later produced her 1960 film, "Let's Make Love." Included is a transmittal envelope addressed to MM but at a different address and having a later-dated postmark (apparently used for another letter Wald sent her) plus a small vintage print black and white photograph of MM in a bikini top; the verso is stamped "Andre de Dienes/1401 Sunset Plaza Drive/Hollywood, Calif. 90069." 10 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches; Photo: 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches
