A three-page letter handwritten in pencil on stationery by MM's former legal guardian; dated "Fri. mor 6:00 Jan. 30th," Goddard covers many different subjects including some that are cryptic: a woman named Evelyn that Grace was afraid "would really go to Fox and cause you [Monroe] some embarrassment" and a sad situation involving Gladys [MM's mother and Grace's best friend] where Grace volunteers to "go downtown and attend to this for you...and arrange for Doc [Grace's husband] to get the money from you (that) it will require...he will take me down there as I don't want to go alone." Grace also discusses some of Monroe's other family members, but ends on the positive note of "I am very happy that you / and I have reached an / understanding - when you are / happy, so am I...All my love / Grace." Overall, an illuminating letter showing that Monroe did have people in her life who cared for her as the content seems to indicate. Included is the original transmittal envelope addressed to MM at "Beverly Hills Hotel" with Grace's return address of "6707 Odessa Ave / Van Nuys, Calif." -- the same house where MM once lived with the Goddards years before. 8 x 5in
