Title: Manuscript Log book of the Ship Versailles. Boston to Sydney. Sydney to Callao. 1854-1855 Author: Henry, John Place: At Sea Publisher: Date: 1854-55 Description: Approximately 127 pp. 8x6¾, half calf and boards. Housed in custom slip case with book plate of former owner pasted to front. A complete captain's record of the two legs of the voyage included in the title. The Versailles was built in Medford, Massachusetts in 1848 by J.T. Foster. She registered 547 tons and was 133 feet in length. She was described as a full model with a deck cabin and built of oak copper and iron fastened so that she was a superior class ship. In addition to the voyage detailed in the present log she made a voyage from Boston to San Francisco, arriving in the latter place March 24, 1852, after a passage of 128 days. Lot Amendments Condition: Some light wear; else very good. Item number: 193720
