Lot consists of two U.S. Civil War Artillery and Staff & Field swords. (A) Model 1840. Manufacturer marking is illegible, but has traces that relate to Chicopee, Mass on left side of ricasso. Right side reads "U.S./M.M./1864". Grip is leather and is wrapped in twisted brass wire. Hilt is made of brass. Complete with steel scabbard. CONDITION: Blade is in excellent condition having only minor spotting and minor nicks to edge. Leather grip is also excellent showing only minor handling marks, brass wire is still evenly wrapped around grip. Hilt Has scattered handling marks and minor spotting. Scabbard is excellent with areas of spotting all around. (B) Model 1850 Staff & Field sword. No manufacturer marking is present. Blade is etched 3/4 of the length of the blade. Leather grip with twisted brass wire and brass hilt. Complete with scabbard. CONDITION: Blade is in great condition showing light spotting along the length, and minor pitting on the left side. Leather grip is in excellent condition showing few minor handling marks and retaining its twisted brass wire. Hilt has turned a pleasing brown patina, also showing minor handling marks. Scabbard shows areas of corrosion with brass components turning a yellow/brown patina in some areas. Overall an excellent lot of two U.S. Civil War swords.
