Lot consists of five items relating to Frederick W. Hoffman of the New Jersey National Guard who enlisted in June of 1903 for five years. He is listed as Musician, Co. M Fourth Regiment. Information corroborated by a letter from the State of New Jersey. His last appearance of record dates to 1915. The items in this lot are attributed to his career with the NJ National Guard. Lot consists of: (A) Shadow boxed framed display. It features a cabinet card of Frederick Hoffman in uniform, 16 New Jersey uniform buttons, 8 service and marksman medals, a New Jersey Mills belt buckle, 6 New Jersey collar pins in 3 styles. CONDITION: Medals all retain various degrees of patina but are good and complete. Ribbon on 10 Years of Service medal is fraying. (B) Canteen, stopper type used during Indian Wars and Spanish American War. It is stenciled NGNJ and has original leather strap and stopper. CONDITION: Good, dirty and toning with a few stains. Leather is solid, but is flaking and crazing. (C) Knapsack marked for "N.G.N.J". CONDITION: Good, with some stains and marks from age and use. Leather with extensive crazing but complete. Some tarnishing and verdigris to brass. A nice lot of New Jersey identified items. (D) Knapsack marked NJ, shoulder bag style with leather straps. CONDITION: Good, leather is supple but tender with crazing. Canvas is good, but dirty with a few stains. (E) 1874 mess kit. CONDITION: Good with areas of corrosion.
