LI, Andres de (fl. 1490s). Repertorio de los tiempos . - GRANOLLACHS, Bernardus de (1421-1485). Lunarium , in Spanish. Saragossa: Paul Hurus, 10 June 1495. Chancery 4° (189 x 133mm). Collation: a-b 8 c 6 d-h 8 (a1r xylographic and typographic title, a1v prologue, a2r Repertorio , d1r calendar, e5r Golden Number table, e5v blood-letting figure, e6v-7r 2 medical men with influences, printed horizontally, e7v explanation of the figures, e8r Lunarium , h8 blank?). 61 leaves (of 62, without final blank). 36 lines. Type: 84G, 1[Haebler 2*]:134G. 68 woodcuts (7 allegorical woodcuts of the planets; 11 woodcuts of the months (repeated) and 12 small astrological signs (repeated), and 3 anatomical figures), and 27 woodcuts of moon phases; woodcut ornamental initials, woodcut borderpieces around woodcuts in the calendar. (First leaf defective, a2 fore-margin renewed, neat repaired tear in a3 and c1, some small wormholes, somewhat browned and stained.) 19th-century Spanish tree calf, flat spine gilt with red leather spine label (a little scuffed). Provenance : two early flyleaves preserved at end with MS astrological notes in Spanish. Fourth edition of a popular calendar and handbook of prognostications, explaining the months, astrological signs, lunar phases, etc. VERY RARE, one of only 3 copies recorded; the other two are at Madrid and Paris. The previous 3 editions are also extremely rare; no copy of the first recorded edition (Saragossa,: Hurus, 12 August 1492) is known today (cf. Haeb(BI) 200(3)). Some of the woodcuts had previously appeared in Hurus's edition of Johannes de Ketham's Fasciculus Medicinae (15 August 1494). Granollachs was a Catalan physician and astronomer, whose Lunarium was often printed in the 15th and 16th centuries.
